20th Annual Feast of St. Henry Reunion
Saturday, July 11, 2009, 5PM – 8 PM in the 800 Block of General Pershing St.
“The doors may be locked, but the spirit is ALIVE!”
The Friends of St. Henry invite you, your family, and friends to join us on Saturday, July 11th for our 20th Annual Feast of St. Henry Celebration and Reunion. As we are sure you know, our 153 year old Parish was suppressed last year and our last Mass was celebrated on October 26, 2008, but there is still a strong effort to make sure it was not the last Mass in our beautiful and historic Church. By attending this annual Reunion which is open to EVERYONE, you will help spread the word that the St. Henry family is alive and well and dedicated to re-opening our Church in some manner.
This year’s event will be different. As we no longer have access to our auditorium, this year’s celebration will be a BLOCK PARTY!!! The event will take place in front of the Church and former school in the 800 block of General Pershing St. The event will casually start at 5pm so that those who attend a 4pm Saturday Vigil Mass can attend both. We will provide food, snow-balls, soft drinks, water, and beer – and this year we will also feature live music. The J. Monque' D Blues Band will perform and will be joined by special guests throughout the evening for your entertainment. And the price? Well, it’s the same as the tuition that was charged at St. Henry’s for years – FREE! In addition to food, drinks, and entertainment, we will also have yard signs, bumper stickers, DVD’s, and other items available to help spread the word to “Save St. Henry”.
While there is no charge to attend this event, please keep in mind that to carry out events such as this, as well as to continue our efforts to open our Church, we do rely on donations to survive. We ask that you consider donating to our cause while spending the evening with us. The Friends of St. Henry is a non-profit corporation that was formed in 2008 after the Archdiocese of New Orleans announced its plans to suppress our Parish. We have survived as a result of the generosity of our parishioners, alumni, friends, and concerned citizens throughout the country who support our cause and we hope we can include you in that group. Please know that if you cannot attend our celebration on July 11th and would still like to contribute to our cause, you may send a check payable to: “Friends of St. Henry” P.O. Box 751150, New Orleans, LA 70175
Please spread the word to your neighbors, your friends, and even to total strangers. As has long been said: "Our reunions are for anyone who went to St. Henry's School, lived in St. Henry's Parish, attended St. Henry's Church, knew someone named Henry, or can spell Henry.” A record crowd at this year’s event will make a bold statement that we are dedicated to our past history, our present status, and ultimately to our FUTURE! We hope to see you on Saturday, July 11 – spread the word and SAVE ST.HENRY!
